So, let’s take up where we left off last week, are you in a dry place as Elijah was, sitting by the Kerith Brook watching the water dry up? But remember, this is a place where the Lord has sent you, a place that felt really good, at first.  You were going along at a pretty good clip and then, all of a sudden, the Lord says, “hold up, wait a minute, you’ve gotten too comfortable. It’s time for you to pull up. You’re moving too fast!  Did you forget who’s driving?”   It is at this point that we must be willing to give the Holy Spirit the steering wheel and guide us as we’re “Coming out of our Dry Place”!  The Lord has told us…

For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
    so my ways are higher than your ways
    and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:9 KJV

As I was just living life this week, I kept hearing the word “surrender” and I wondered how does this tie into us coming out of a dry place?  I believe that to come out of a dry place, we must be willing to surrender or relinquish the control (the steering wheel) to the Lord.  It is implied throughout the bible that we should willingly give the Lord total control of our life, our decisions, and our will. The operative word being “willingly”.  However, I invite you to study this more on your own, because it can be confusing to a certain degree.  The Lord does not want a rag doll or puppet.  He won’t take control; He’s not going to force us to give Him control.  He wants us, in its truest sense, to trust Him because He truly knows what’s best for us.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
    do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
    and he will show you which path to take.

Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

Although this is a place that God has put us, He never intended for us to stay here.  God has purposed our dry places as a time for reflection, preparation, and motivation.  He knows when it’s time for us move and, in essence, when we think about it, we really don’t have a choice.  He knows what’s on the other side.  There are folks waiting for us, there are things that we must do, yes, miracles for us to perform. You may be thinking miracles, really, all I can say is, do not underestimate the power of the Holy Spirit.  Our blessing is also in the mix, the answers to prayers that we’ve been waiting for, are on the other side of that dry place as well.  Remember what I said, if we do our part in the natural, we will be able to watch God do a miracle in the supernatural.

But, if you are like me, oftentimes, the voices in my head are on repeat, as I try to figure out where I may have gone wrong.  We should never stop critiquing ourselves because that’s the only way we will get better.  However, we must make sure that the volume is not so loud that we don’t hear anything else, especially when the Lord is trying to talk to us.  The Lord knows, at some point, we will ask Him “why am I here” and He will hear us, which means that He was there all the time.

It’s been dry, long enough.  It’s time for us to come out of hiding, refined and refreshed for what’s ahead… to be confident in our gifting that the Lord has put in us and to know that the Lord is always with us, especially when He takes us out of our comfort.  He may just send a disturbance in our lives to bring us out of hiding for those that are waiting on the other side and the Holy Spirit will sustain us during our journey.

So make sure that we are listening to what the Holy Spirit is saying…
